Book Marketing Services: What to Ask Before You Pay

There are honest book marketing companies and there are companies that sell air. From the outside they look identical — same websites, same promises. Here are six questions that separate them fast.

One: who exactly will see my book?

'We will reach 50,000 people' means nothing. 50,000 who? Readers of your kind of book, or just anybody? Good companies talk about your specific readers — the clubs, podcasts, and places where your readers already are.

Two: what happens in month one, and month three?

Hype companies sell a package. Honest companies walk you through a plan with dates. If they cannot tell you what happens in month one, nothing will happen in month one.

Three: what does success look like, in numbers?

Not 'exposure' — a number you can count. Sales, reviews, orders, event bookings. If they shrug at this question, walk away.

Four: who exactly does the work?

The person who sells you the package is rarely the person who does the work. Ask who your actual day-to-day human is. If there is no answer, there is no team.

Five: what do you need from me?

A company that asks nothing of you is a company doing nothing for you. Real marketing needs your story, your voice, and a little of your time.

Six: can I talk to an author like me?

One honest conversation with a past client is worth a hundred testimonials. Honest companies are happy to arrange it.

We are happy to answer all six — and we wrote the questions. If you want a marketing plan built around your book, say hello.
